What I haven't dealt with yet is the 'license converting' process for retail keys, only OEM where it's built into the hardware. If you do an in place upgrade to Win 10 Home, you can still do the Anytime Upgrade. If you upgrade Win 7 Home to Pro, it converts your license then, and then you do an in place upgrade to 10 Pro. But with the Windows 10 media creation tool, make sure to make a W10 Pro ISO if you ever want to reinstall from scratch.

I'm thinking through both scenarios and I can't think of a real difference. It's not a big deal, just back up your data and keep installation media of everything. And if you are starting or entering an IT career, you need to start taking chances like this. In the time since you started this thread, it could be done.

The in place upgrade process to Win 10 is almost entirely automatic and took me less than an hour. If you've ever installed Windows from scratch, this won't be hard.
